In the
Gudgel War in 1597 Klaus Fleming, the Lord High
Constable of Swedish Empire, ordered to buid some
artillery bulwarks on the bank of the river Karvianjoki
against rebel farmers near the place where later in 17th
century situated a fortress. Some weak marks can still
be seen in the area of Kyro Skanssi near the present
granaries and bridges.
After the visit
it is refreshing to have a nice cup of coffee and a fresh
piece of
cake in the atmospheric military canteen of Niinisalo,
the artillery carrison in the village treasures road's military
traditions. Near the canteen the City Museum of Kankaanpaa
is proud to present local history and modern fine arts.
